A Simple Sonnet - A Poem

A SIMPLE SONNET

I could lose myself in your hair –

I could dive into its lightness

And never come up for air,

I long to see the tossed blond mess

In the first light of a summer dawn,

Your eyes beneath it, shining, so bold,

Your lips suppressing a yawn,

Your love would be mine to have and hold

Your soul would be mine to keep,

Your arms would be there to drive out the cold

And cradle me back to sleep,

Then I could dream of growing old

With you, and you with me –

In the haven of each other’s hearts, eternally.
