The Night - A Poem
THE NIGHT
The night is day turned inside out,
Upside down. All things clear come
Muddy and brown,
Black and gray.
Thoughts take flight
Make horrors and pleasures
Too harsh for the day.
Light smothers still
Stars feel for life,
Animals crouch and whisper
Or cry at the moon,
"Sun, be here soon."
No one is safe at night.
Intruders enter with easy grace
To defile, to rob, to penetrate
To choke the spark from the throat at rest.
The night was comfort,
But now, it is Death.
